Search Benton County Court Dockets

Fowler's clerk issues official copies, and a Benton County search can also confirm a court date, trace a case number, and tell the state route from the federal one once the statewide public case system finds the case. Indiana calls the ordered record of filings, hearings, orders, and outcomes a Chronological Case Summary, or CCS, and the county's trial court keeps one for each matter in Benton County, Indiana. Sealed material stays restricted. Case details and some documents appear online, and a Benton County court docket search moves to the clerk when the online record is incomplete.

Benton County MyCase Search Fields

The official MyCase search form gives you three distinct paths. Search by Case works best once you hold a cause, citation, or cross-reference number. Search by Name takes a person's last, first, and middle names. A birth date or a business name works too. Search by Attorney accepts a lawyer's name or bar number. A sound-alike option catches spelling variants. But Indiana's search tips warn that it cannot be paired with a wildcard.

Case status filters down to All, Open, or Closed. Those labels are search tools only. They do not explain a judgment, a satisfaction, an expungement, or an appeal. Filing dates narrow when the case began, not when each hearing happened. Expect CAPTCHA checks after repeated searches. Indiana also prohibits automated data mining of MyCase. Anyone wanting bulk or compiled court data must use the written Indiana Office of Judicial Administration request process. Collecting pages automatically is not allowed.

The Indiana Judicial Branch Benton page lays out the state services behind local court work. It shows the county sitting inside Indiana's court system, not behind a separate county search product.

Benton County court docket services on the Indiana Judicial Branch page

That distinction matters when a search fails. Change the MyCase fields or call the clerk. Do not hunt for an unlisted Benton municipal portal, because there is none to find.

A MyCase result can carry a case caption, court, type, filing date, status, parties, charges or claims, attorneys, CCS events, and selected documents. Availability varies. Treat it as a route to the official court record, never a substitute. If a public document is missing, save the exact entry wording before you call. That small step helps. Clerk staff can then tell an order from a motion, a judgment from a release, and a docket copy from a transcript.

What a Court Docket Shows

In Benton County, a court docket is the Chronological Case Summary. It is an ordered list of judicial events. Each line may record a filing, a hearing, an order, a judgment, or some other action. The entry date marks when the event was entered in the CCS. That can differ from the hearing date or the date an order was signed. Read the entry text and any public document together. A filed motion shows only that a request reached the court. It does not prove the judge granted it.

Case NumberThe Benton prefix and filing code, such as the synthetic example 04C01-2401-F6-000001.
PartiesThe public case caption and party roles, subject to redaction and access rules.
Docket Entries / FilingsDated CCS text for pleadings, motions, service, orders, and other events.
Hearing SettingsDate, time, location, hearing type, and judicial officer when public.
Court & JudgeBenton Circuit Court and the assigned judicial officer.
DispositionThe order, judgment, dismissal, plea, or other recorded outcome.

Handle financial fields with care. MyCase may list costs, fines, payments, and a balance. Its own notice says the display can be incomplete. Collections activity or interest may change what is owed. For a current ledger, the clerk remains the source of truth. A linked order can be a useful public copy, yet it is not certified. A receiving office may demand the clerk's seal. Ask what level of authentication a Benton County court record needs before you order and pay.

Different records answer different questions. The CCS fixes the sequence of court events. A complaint, petition, motion, or affidavit supplies the filing's actual text. A signed order records judicial action. A proposed order stays a proposal until the court acts. A transcript preserves spoken proceedings and comes from a court reporter. Swap these items for one another and you may misread the case entirely.

Decode Benton County Docket 04C01

Every Indiana case number follows one pattern, set by Administrative Rule 8. A Benton County docket number breaks down in pieces. The 04 stands for the county, the C for Circuit Court, and the 01 for that listed court. Four more digits follow, giving the two-digit year and the month of filing. Then comes a two-letter case-type code. A six-digit sequence rounds out the number.

CCS
Chronological Case Summary, Indiana's official event-by-event trial-court record.
F6 or CM
A Level 6 felony or criminal misdemeanor case classification, not a verdict.
PL, EV, or SC
Plenary civil, eviction, or small-claims classifications.
IF
An infraction case, often tied to a traffic citation.

Keep one caution in mind. The ending code tells you how a case was filed, never how it ended. An F6 label means the charge entered the system at that felony level. From there it can be dismissed, reduced, diverted, resolved by plea, or tried. Civil codes work the same way. An EV number marks an eviction filing. It is not a win for either side. So read the disposition and the newest CCS entries before trusting a short label. The Indiana Courts public portal opens onto several services. Its landing screen helps you tell the public gateway apart from the MyCase trial docket.

Match the tool to the job. MyCase carries trial-case information, while other state tools cover calendars, ticket payments, protection orders, and reports.

Which Courts Keep Dockets

Benton County lists one court of record: Benton Circuit Court, identifier 04C01. That single court can hold criminal, civil, family, juvenile, probate, small-claims, traffic, and infraction dockets. No Benton Superior Court or separate city or town court shows up in the current directory, the Rule 8 list, the MyCase menu, or the county town pages. This describes the present listings only. Indiana law could still permit some other local arrangement.

An appeal does not stay on the trial docket. It moves to its own Indiana appellate cause number and docket. The Court of Appeals of Indiana sits in the middle of that ladder. The Supreme Court of Indiana sits at the top. The Indiana Tax Court takes specialized tax disputes. A Benton trial-court number may be cited along the way, but the appellate CCS is not a continuation of the local MyCase page. Federal matters go their own route, through PACER and the Northern District of Indiana.

One Benton County Docket Court

With one court, picking your starting point is easy. The case code still matters, though. Prosecutor and probation offices touch cases but do not keep the public CCS. A treatment, diversion, or compliance event can appear inside the underlying 04C01 case itself. Benton County posts no official specialty-court page. It posts no separate specialty calendar either. So treat a program name as a program, not as a new public docket. The Benton County government directory shows the courthouse and justice offices in their local setting. That county page helps explain why court, clerk, prosecutor, and probation contacts serve different purposes. They cannot be swapped for one another.

For the docket itself, go to MyCase or the Clerk of Circuit Court. For a transcript, ask the court reporter about format, price, and timing.

Benton County sits in Indiana Judicial District 2 along with Jasper, Newton, and Porter Counties. District membership is about administration and rules. It does not merge the counties' public case files. A Benton search still uses the Benton County selection and the 04C01 identifier. A transfer or a special-judge assignment can move a matter. Read the newest docket text rather than assuming every hearing stays in the original room.

Town pages can muddy things too. Fowler, Oxford, Otterbein, Boswell, and Earl Park list their officials and services. None publishes a municipal court database. A town marshal or police department may hold details about an incident or citation. The judicial record begins only when a matter reaches the filing court. Use the court name printed on the ticket or notice. Then confirm it against MyCase and the official directory.

Finding Court Dates and Settings

Begin with the most recent notice, summons, order, or CCS entry. Check the cause number, the date, the time, the location, the hearing type, and the judicial officer. Then read the entries that follow. Look for a continuance, a reset, a cancellation, or a new order. Indiana CourtCal lists Benton among its counties. Yet the participating-court response returns an empty Benton court list. A blank result does not mean that no hearing exists.

When the date or room is unclear, call Benton Circuit Court at 765-884-0370. The clerk number is 765-884-0930. The full Benton County court calendar process walks through CourtCal's window and the direct-confirmation fallback. A setting is an event on the case path. It is not a disposition.

A solid check compares several pieces of the same record. Match the complete cause number on the notice with MyCase. Then look for an entry made after the date printed on that notice. Words like continued, reset, vacated, or cancelled can flag a change. The entry date and the hearing date may differ. If the newest order cannot be viewed online, give court staff its CCS title and date. They can pull the right public document.

Benton County CourtCal Docket Gap

Indiana's Trial Court Calendars tool covers schedules from the prior seven days through the next four weeks. But it works only for courts that take part. You can search by county, court, date, case name or number, hearing description, time zone, and judicial officer. Benton County shows up as a choice. Yet no Benton court appears on the participating list. An empty search, in other words, is not the last word on whether a hearing exists.

When no hearing appears: check the newest CCS event, read the court notice, then confirm with Benton Circuit Court. Do not rely on a blank online calendar.

Need a live voice on a Benton County hearing date? The Benton Circuit Court contact page lists the court's direct phone number and staff. Call there whenever the statewide calendar skips the local schedule.

One caution applies. After a reset, or when an order conflicts with an older docket line, confirm directly with the court before relying on either.

Benton County Docket Totals

Indiana's official court statistics set the frame. Nobody is named in them. No cause is identified either. Benton Circuit Court opened 2024 carrying 1,905 pending cases, took in 1,012 new filings, disposed of 912 cases, and closed the year at 2,005 pending. The math checks out across the official workbook. But these totals blend many case types, so they cannot tell you whether any particular Benton County court docket is open, paid, dismissed, sealed, or appealed.

1,012new filings in 2024
912cases disposed in 2024
2,005pending at year end

For aggregate trends, the 2024 Indiana trial-court reports are the source to use. MyCase and the clerk still own the individual record. That division matters when you run a case lookup. The filing mix explains a lot. One Benton County court docket search can look nothing like another. Criminal, infraction, juvenile, civil, family, probate, and other categories all sit in the official workbook. It logged 205 criminal misdemeanor filings. It also logged 190 infraction filings, plus civil collection, foreclosure, small-claims, eviction, and domestic-relations work. Treat these as annual counts. They are not live case totals. They also say nothing about a named person or an individual cause.

Public Access to Dockets

Access to a Benton County court docket runs through Indiana's court-record rules. Rule 4 presumes public access. That presumption bends only in narrow cases. Rule 5, another law, or a court order must exclude the record. Administrative Rule 9 controls remote access, calendars, copies, and compiled-data requests. Indiana's Access to Public Records Act reaches public-agency records more broadly. Yet it cannot override a sealed case or the specific court-record rules.

Key Rules:

Access to Court Records Rule 4 sets the general public-access baseline.

Access to Court Records Rule 5 identifies confidential or excluded material.

Administrative Rule 9 addresses online access, calendars, copies, and bulk requests.

Indiana Code 5-14-3 is the general Access to Public Records Act.

Some categories get special treatment. Protection orders feed a separate public registry holding only what Indiana permits there. Juvenile, mental-health, sealed, and other protected matters may be excluded in whole or in part. A generic docket line can stay visible while its attachment stays hidden. Parties and attorneys sometimes get access the public does not. The rule, case type, filing date, and any court order decide the outcome. Why you asked does not enter in. Remote access and courthouse access are cousins, not twins. Rule 4 can make a record public even when MyCase shows no downloadable image. The reverse holds too: confidential data never turns public just because it lives in an electronic system. The clerk can walk you through the public request channel and any redaction requirement. Extraordinary access to a confidential record is granted only by the court. It comes through the rule's verified written-request process.

Missing Benton County Court Documents

MyCase can show a case while an attachment stays unavailable. Restrictions by case type, filing date, confidentiality law, redaction, or court order explain many gaps. Older converted cases may simply have less online material. A no-result search might mean a spelling mismatch, an old paper record, expungement, or sealing. It never proves no filing existed. Write down the full 04C01 number, the document title, and the CCS date. Then ask the clerk whether a public plain copy exists. Ask how to request it and the cost. Confidential material may require a verified written request under Rule 9. Access is never automatic. Note that the Indiana clerk address archive lists a room designation different from the county site.

Here the sources clash. One says Room 23; the county page says Suite 37 on the third floor. Call ahead before any in-person Benton County record visit.

The Clerk and Docket Records

Jennifer Greenberg is listed as Benton County Clerk of Circuit Court. Her office keeps and authenticates the 04C01 file. It receives filings and fees, maintains CCS data, and fields questions when online access falls short. Ask for a public CCS copy, a named filing, or a certified copy. Ask also for a current cost ledger. A transcript is a different animal. Request that from the court reporter instead. Email and fax addresses are published. The county posts no general copy-order form or mail procedure. So confirm the accepted request and payment method first. The county page publishes bcclerkstaff@bentoncounty.in.gov for staff. It also lists jgreenberg@bentoncounty.in.gov for the clerk, plus fax 765-884-0322. State and county sources agree on the courthouse street address. Yet they disagree on the room number. Ask staff where to arrive, whether a public terminal is available, and what payment forms work. Ask when the copy will be ready. Courtroom hours go unposted. Clerk-counter hours are no basis for guessing them.

Watch the dates on that fee sheet. The county's linked version was updated July 1, 2023, so its amounts are leads, not promises of current pricing. Public-terminal instruments run $1 per page. Faxed copies cost $1 per page with an $8 maximum, and child-support ledgers cost $0.10 per page. Even the certification wording departs from the state statute. History has its own record here. The state courthouse marker notes the county seat's move from Oxford to Fowler and the courthouse's 1874 opening.

That history shapes today's route. The courthouse and clerk sit in Fowler even when a case concerns another Benton community, so plan the countywide record trip accordingly.

Benton County Odyssey Docket Since 2010

Benton Circuit Court moved onto Odyssey on March 1, 2010. That shift put case events, calendars, financial data, and e-filing into one connected system. MyCase is where the public reads it. The attorney e-filing side is separate, so don't confuse it with the docket search. A payment screen is not a full CCS either. Older cases can show less detail after conversion. A newer Benton County court docket entry may say more.

The Benton County history page shows the courthouse building itself. It stood long before this digital record-keeping arrived.

Benton County courthouse serving the modern court docket system

The screen is only a window. The court and the clerk keep the official file. That file controls whenever a MyCase view and the clerk record disagree.

Indiana e-filing works by sending an electronic envelope into the case-management system. Inside that envelope sit one or more coded filings. A complaint, motion, notice, proposed order, summons, or return of service can create a later CCS event. It can also support one. Acceptance of the envelope settles nothing about the merits. It does not complete service or open every attachment to public view. The docket still has to be read for the court's response. Confidential data must also continue to follow Indiana exclusion rules.

Court Dockets by City in Benton County

The 2020 Census counts set the order. The five town pages run Fowler, Oxford, Otterbein, Boswell, and Earl Park. Indiana classifies all five as towns. None of them has its own court listed. Each page therefore explains how local matters route to Benton Circuit Court, MyCase, ePay, or the clerk. Otterbein needs extra care, since the town straddles the Benton and Tippecanoe county line. Ambia is the sixth incorporated town and sits outside the five-page set.

The Benton County community overview gives the local background behind those five record routes.

History and geography set each town apart. Even so, no separate municipal docket exists for any of them in official listings, and each card leads to town-specific instructions and cautions.

Circuit Court's own line, 765-884-0370, does not publish separate courtroom hours, so treat the Clerk's counter hours as the office schedule rather than a hearing schedule. The county has not published parking, security-screening, or ADA/accessibility details for the courthouse, so a call ahead is the most reliable way to plan an in-person visit.
